Stoma Care




This stoma care workshop teaches carers and support staff theoretical and practical knowledge so they are confident and competent working around a stoma.


It aims to provide an understanding of the correct, best practice techniques and methods for stoma care. It also explains the importance of maintaining effective infection control and prevention, as well as the value of privacy, dignity, and respect for the service user. 

This workshop covers:
  • Basic understanding of the gastrointestinal system
  • Different types of stoma
  • Infection control and prevention
  • Skin and stoma care and management of complications
  • Emptying, replacing and disposing of stoma bags
  • Risks and indications of malfunction, including conditions requiring intervention by a health professional
  • Privacy, dignity & respect
  • Keeping accurate records

Please note:  Participants will be issued with a certificate of completion valid for a period of 1 year.
