Certificate IV in Disability Support

Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Who is this for?

This qualification has been designed to provide a strong foundation for support workers, team leaders, coordinators, frontline managers, and other staff who currently provide services to people with disabilities as part of their day to day work.

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of: CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

    OR 

    Completion of: CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)

    OR 

    Completion of: CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS  the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.

 

Additionally:

  • All learners must be at least 18 years of age.

  • All learners must complete a language, literacy and numeracy skills assessment at time of enrolment, or alternatively provide a copy of a Certificate or Statement of Attainment for a Certificate IV qualification or higher or equivalent.

  • All learners must be an existing worker in a Disability setting.

  • All learners must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Disability setting or in a support/carer role in either the Disability, Aged Care, Mental Health or Community Sectors.

UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER (USI) number

From 2015, all students undertaking Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia need a USI number.

SET2LEARN will not be able to issue any national recognised qualification or statement of attainment if this is not provided.

Units of Study

10 units must be completed to attain this qualification, consisting of 7 compulsory units and 3 elective units.
(Please note that elective units are selected by Set2Learn based on industry consultation)

  • CHCDIS018 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach
  • CHCDIS019 Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs
  • CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance
  • CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
  • HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety

Electives

  • CHCCCS041 Recognise healthy body systems
  • CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support

  • CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety

Electives may vary to suit the needs of each individual.

Delivery

This course is offered via a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway.

What is RPL?

RPL is an assessment process recognising any skills and knowledge gained through previous training, work or life experience that are relevant to the qualification, to determine the extent to which you meet the qualification requirements for competency.

 

The RPL process also identifies where any additional learning is needed to achieve competency in the qualification. Where this is required, gap training is available and will need to be completed. You may also apply for any Credit Transfer for any previously completed units.

Assessment

RPL Assessment-only process and gap training when required.

 

A variety of documentary evidence can be used to support your RPL application. Examples include but not limited to:

  • CV or work history
  • Previous qualifications and certificates
  • Third Party Reports
  • Pay slips and job description
  • Photographs of work undertaken
  • Samples of workplace documentation
  • Performance reviews
  • Diaries/task sheets/job sheets/logbooks
  • Awards/memberships/licences

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) / CREDIT TRANSFER

You can apply for recognition of prior learning for any learning gained through previous employment or study. You may also apply for any credit transfer on units already completed. Please discuss this further by contacting us on 1300 404 514.

  2. Locate or set up your Unique Student Identifier at www.usi.gov.au
  3. Complete your online enrolment below. 
  4. All learners will be asked to participate in a Pre-Training Review and complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Review. This is to ensure we meet your needs as a learner and you are suitable for the course.

  5. Receive notification of the outcome and confirmation of enrolment if you are accepted.

COURSE FEES

Full fee for service:  $1,500.00

A $500 per person deposit is required upon commencement and the balance can be paid by regular fortnightly instalments.
