Overview

This workshop has been designed to support workers and carers to support people who require assistance with pressure care and wound management. This is a very basic course which will cover common skin integrity risks; signs of infection and required response; methods for positioning and turning to manage pressure and choking risks; implications of wound management for delivering daily support activities such as showering, toileting, mealtime assistance and mobility.

This workshop for carers and support staff provides the essential skills and knowledge required to provide care and support to people who require pressure care and wound management.

It aims to provide an understanding of the correct, best practice techniques and methods for pressure care and wound management. It also explains the importance of maintaining effective infection control and prevention, as well as the value of privacy, dignity, and respect for the service user.

This workshop covers:

  • Basic understanding of the Integumentary system

  • Common skin integrity issues and risks

  • Infection control and prevention

  • Methods to minimise pressure injuries

  • Positioning and turning methods and techniques

  • Implications of wound management for delivering daily support activities

  • Privacy, dignity & respect

  • Keeping accurate records

 

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion valid for a period of 1 year.
