Enteral Feeding and Management (PEG)
Overview
This course is designed to develop the essential knowledge and skills required to provide care for people who require Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tube feeding. This workshop aims to support workers and carers to provide high intensity support including caring for stoma area, monitor and report signs of infection, respond to malfunctions, etc. This workshop will allow participants to practice skills using actual PEG tubes and a a kangaroo pump.

Our training has been designed to familiarise participants with the cause and approaches of PEG tube feeding. It aims to provide an understanding of the correct, best practice techniques and methods for enteral feeding and management. It also emphasizes the value of privacy, dignity, and respect for the service user.
The workshop covers:
The basic anatomy of the digestive system
The reasons for using gastrostomy tubes
How to administer feeds and flushes safely
PEG site care and potential complications
Effectively troubleshoot potential problems of gastrostomy tubes
Infection prevention and control
Know when to ask for specialist help
The correct use of a Kangaroo pump
Practical assessment using a mannequin
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion.
