Overview

Learn how to assist people aged 65 and over who are developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

Who is this for?

The Older Person Mental Health First Aid course is for any interested adult, particularly those who work with, live with or care for older people, including families and carers.

You will learn how to assist a person aged 65 who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based action plan.

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

The OPMHFA is a 12-hour course, which is delivered as either:

  • 2 x 6-hour sessions across 2 consecutive days OR  
  • 4 x 3-hour sessions across 4 weeks

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion.
