Manage Diabetes

Overview

This workshop aims to provide workers and carers with the skills and knowledge to support a person to implement their diabetes management plan and identify and respond to hypoglycaemic episodes, monitor and record blood sugar levels (BSLs).

This workshop for carers and support staff aims to provide the knowledge and practical skills to identify and manage diabetes.

It aims to provide an understanding of the correct, best practice techniques and methods for monitoring and managing diabetes. It also explains the importance of maintaining effective infection control and prevention, as well as the value of privacy, dignity, and respect for the service user.  

This workshop covers:

  • Basic understanding of diabetes Type 1 and Type 2 and its aetiology

  • Factors affecting blood sugar levels

  • Methods of managing insulin levels

  • Variables that affect insulin delivery

  • Common signs, symptoms, risks and responses to unstable blood sugar levels

  • Complications of diabetes and sources of expertise

 

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion valid for a period of 1 year.
